The reporter,  Alex Sakariassen, was with Missoula Independent until Missoulian bought and shuttered it.  He is grandson of A.B. Gutherie, Author of “The Big Sky”.

Sunday we talked to Hal Herring (award-winning journalist & contributing editor at Field and Stream Magz) after seeing him quoted in the article, which covers National Bison Range transfer in Daines/Tester Bill S3019 to settle water rights claims of Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes.   Watch for new “Public Trust ” Documentary coming soon, featuring Hal.   It is produced by Robert Redford and Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard.   https://www.outsideonline.com/2409409/patagonia-film-public-trust

The Film was Big Sky award winner at Missoula Wildlife Film Festival last week.

In addition Montana Free Press produced a public lands podcast with Hal last week.  https://montanafreepress.org/2020/02/19/episode-56-hal-herring-on-the-movement-to-privatize-americas-public-lands/

National Bison Range is discussed starting at about 34 minutes into the podcast.   Arctic NWR and Malheur NWR also prominently covered.    Hal calls it Public Land Skulduggery!  Like dark money. Worth listening to entire hour.   National Bison Range was established honorably.   Trojan horse public land privatiztion precedent, using a Native American Tribe as the first case.
